A Guy from Cotabato City feels unwelcome at Davao City

Warning: This is not a general statement but a first hand experience by a friend who shared his story to me.

Davao City, one of the safest city in the world. If you listen to one of the popular FM news station Brigada News FM, from their tagline, home of the first Mindanawan president and one of the safest city in the world.

Last year, I left my phone at Brokenshire Hospital near at the nurses station and unfortunately I wasn't able to recover it. I returned to the chair where I left my phone but no one was honest enough to turn over it to the nurses station or even to the guards.

Cotabato City, I lived almost my entire life. We moved to Cotabato City from Manila at the age of 5 and up to this time I have never lost or got robbed at Cotabato City. So when I lost my phone I also started to lost confident to Davao City.

In Cotabato City, I noticed that there are people there who cares and willing to return items that not theirs. See Facebook posts below from a Cotabato City community page.

Living at subdivision with  security guards and installed CCTV's will make you feel confident. But putting all your trust is a no-no anywhere in this country. Even it's Davao City, which was fifth safest city in the world posted at Inquirer June of 2015.

Looking at the crime rate above and now that I'm living here in Davao City I can say that I belong to those people who worries being home broken and things stolen.

June of 2017, my mountain bike was stolen here in Davao City, one of the safest city in world. I asked a friend to share my bad experience at public Facebook group, hope you understand Bisaya.

With these experience, I feel so unwelcome in this city. Yes, I have a choice to stay here in Davao City or not. We all have our reasons moving from one place to the other so don't say to me that I have a choice to leave. What I'm trying to say or share is, are you Davaoeños really care about your fellow people who live here. Based on my research, there's also place somewhere in Agdao where stolen items are being traded and sold. Are the police investigators do not know anything about these places? Even the woman who sold my bike to "stranger"(according to her) is still free and perhaps still doing her business which is probably, buy stolen item and sell to anyone.

For me, Safest City in the world ka dyan! Walang safe oi. Kahit saan yan huuy! Don't be too confident sa Davao City.
Davao City Mayor asked police authorities to focus on crime against person and properties, according to news posted above. Good luck! They should be doing this. As for me, who already have idea to whereabouts of my bike, I will have no help from our authorities. All I can do for now is wish for the people who uses my bike, stole and sold is just die. I wish ma-tokhang na na silang tanan.
